Ty Dillon will drive for Joe Gibbs Racing in the Xfinity Series, although the news is a shock to many in the industry.

Joe Gibbs Racing has announced to their fans via social media on Wednesday that Ty Dillon will be driving the number 54 Toyota Supra in select races in the 2021 Xfinity Series season. Dillon adds his name to the already stacked lineup of drivers that will make starts in that car this year: Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Martin Truex Jr., and the recently announced Ty Gibbs.

There is no word on what the sponsor will be on this car. Joe Gibbs Racing has said that the sponsors will be announced at a later date. Ty’s confirmed schedule so far is Daytona, Homestead-Miami, the first Las Vegas race, and also the first Talladega Race.

The younger of the two Dillon brothers is at a crossroads in his career. After leaving Germain Racing last year and cutting all personal ties to Richard Childress Racing, his grandfather’s team. Ty has been trying to find his way in the sport over the last few months. He is already scheduled to drive a limited schedule for Gaunt Brothers Racing, a team also supported by Toyota, in the Cup Series.
